Hex

Slip the gaps. Never stop spinning. A free one-tap game.

Play nowHold = clockwise · Let go = counter

Hex is a one-button survival game. Your blob orbits a little hexagon in the middle of the screen and never stops moving: hold anywhere and it runs clockwise, let go and it runs back the other way. Hexagonal walls close in from the edges, each with an opening, and you have to be standing in the gap when a wall sweeps past. Your score is how many seconds you last. The arena spins, the walls speed up, and a new course drops every day for you and your friends' ghosts.

How to play Hex

  1. Hold anywhere to run clockwise around the centre. Let go to run counter-clockwise.
  2. Watch the walls closing in and find the gap in each one.
  3. Be inside the gap when the wall reaches your orbit. Touching a wall ends the run.
  4. Every second you survive is a point. Grab the gold coins that ride in some gaps.

Tips to get a high score

How the walls close in

Hex ramps up on a clock. Over roughly the first 70 seconds the walls go from a slow drift to twice their starting speed, and your blob runs about half again as fast around the centre. After about 80 seconds the walls keep speeding up and the space between them keeps shrinking, so every run ends eventually.

The walls change shape along the same curve. The first few are open across half the ring, and early on most openings are two or three sectors wide. From about 20 seconds you start seeing single-sector gaps and walls with two openings on opposite sides. After about 35 seconds most walls leave you one or two sectors, and nearly a third have two openings.

Spirals turn up from about 25 seconds: three to five single-sector walls in a row, each opening one sector further round in the same direction.

What the score really counts

Your score is whole seconds survived and nothing else. Coins in the gaps go towards hats, and the CLOSE counter is a running total of walls you brushed past this run. Neither adds a point, so never swing wide for a coin.

The game is fair about distance. Each wall is placed so that, at your current speed, you can get from the last opening to the new one with a little time to spare, and for walls with two openings it plans for the farther of them. That spare time shrinks from about 0.4 seconds to about 0.15 seconds over the first 70 seconds. If you set off the right way as soon as a wall is close, you can make it.

The arena's spin and its colour change every ten seconds are only for show. Walls and blob turn together, so the spin never moves a gap relative to you. Ignore it and watch the openings.

Choosing a direction

Because the blob never stops, every choice is about which way to run. Early on the next opening is never more than two sectors from the last. After about 20 seconds it can be three sectors away, straight across, and then both ways round are the same distance. Pick one at once rather than hesitating.

A common mistake is reaching a gap and leaving it too soon. You're only safe once the whole wall has slid inside your orbit, so stay in the opening until it has passed, then set off for the next one.

Walls also get thinner over time, so you spend less time inside each gap. Late in a run, the wiggle that holds you in place matters more than raw speed.

FAQ

Can I stop moving?

No. The blob always runs, and the button only picks the direction. Tap quickly to wiggle back and forth if you want to hold a spot.

How is the score counted?

One point for every whole second you survive. The walls get faster and the gaps get tighter the longer you last, so every run ends eventually.

Is it free?

Yes. Every Tapamine game is free to play in your browser with no download and no account.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Tapamine is built for phones first: portrait, one thumb, and it works offline after your first visit. It also works with a mouse or the spacebar on a computer.

How do challenges work?

After a run, tap “Challenge a friend” to send a link. Your friend plays the exact same level and races your ghost — a replay of your run — to see who wins.
