Duck

Wait for the line-up. Then fire. A free one-tap game.

Duck is a one-tap shooting gallery. Ducks flap up out of the reeds and zig-zag around the sky while your crosshair sweeps along a fixed looping path. You don't aim. You wait for the crosshair to cross a duck and tap to fire. Every wave hands you a few shells, so a wasted shot hurts, and a duck left flying too long bolts for the clouds. Let three get away and the run is over. Waves bring more and faster ducks, plus the odd golden one. There's a new sky every day, and friends' ghosts hunt from the reeds beside you.

How to play Duck

  1. Watch the crosshair loop around the sky. The dotted trail shows where it's heading next.
  2. Tap anywhere to fire. Anything inside the ring when you tap gets hit.
  3. Each wave gives you a few shells. Run out and the ducks still flying make a break for it.
  4. Every duck you hit is a point. Each duck that escapes costs a feather, and three lost feathers end the run.

Tips to get a high score

How the waves get tougher

Waves 1 to 3 send up two ducks, waves 4 to 8 send three, and from wave 9 on there are four. Ducks leave the reeds one after another, about two-thirds of a second apart, so the first one is already flying around when the last one appears.

Ducks fly faster as the run goes on, more than twice as fast by about 70 seconds in, and they keep speeding up a little for the next minute. They also lose patience sooner. Early on a duck circles for about 12 seconds before it bolts. Later it's closer to five.

Golden ducks start appearing from wave 3, about one duck in twelve. They fly about 30 percent faster than the rest.

Shells, feathers and points

Every duck you hit is one point, golden ones included. A golden duck is also worth two coins. A DOUBLE, every fifth hit in a row and a clean wave each drop a coin too, but coins don't add to your score.

Shells are tight, and they get tighter. For the first five waves you get two more shells than there are ducks. From wave 6 you only get one spare. When your last shell is fired, every duck still circling bolts at once, so a miss late in a wave can cost you more than one feather.

You only have three feathers for the whole run, and they don't come back. That makes careful shooting the main skill here. On waves with one spare shell, don't fire unless a duck is clearly inside the ring.

Learning the crosshair's loop

The crosshair always follows the same path. It swings side to side about every two and a half seconds and up and down about every three, and it speeds up by almost half over the first 70 seconds. It covers the middle of the sky most often and slows down as it turns near the edges.

That slow turn is the easiest place to shoot. A duck near the edge of the sky, close to where the crosshair turns around, stays in the ring longer than one it crosses in the middle at full speed.

The ring is a little bigger than a duck, and anything inside it when you tap is hit, so two ducks close together can both fall. A duck that's bolting rises faster and faster, so shoot it early in its climb, not as it reaches the clouds.

FAQ

Can I move the crosshair?

No. It always loops along the same path, and you choose when to pull the trigger. That's what makes it playable with one thumb.

What happens when I'm out of shells?

Your gun clicks empty, and every duck still in the air flies off. Each one that escapes costs a feather.

Is it free?

Yes. Every Tapamine game is free to play in your browser with no download and no account.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Tapamine is built for phones first: portrait, one thumb, and it works offline after your first visit. It also works with a mouse or the spacebar on a computer.

How do challenges work?

After a run, tap “Challenge a friend” to send a link. Your friend plays the exact same level and races your ghost — a replay of your run — to see who wins.
