Dodge

Read the shadows. Don't get flattened. A free one-tap game.

Play nowHold to stop · Let go to run

Dodge is a one-button survival game. A little runner jogs back and forth along the ground by itself, turning around at each end. Rocks, boulders and anvils tumble from the cliff above, and each one throws a shadow that grows and darkens as it falls. Hold anywhere to stop and let go to run again. Some drops aim at where you're standing, others at where you'll be if you keep going, so you have to decide which. Your score is how many seconds you last, on a new day's sky each day, with friends' ghost runners beside you.

How to play Dodge

  1. Your runner moves by itself. Hold anywhere to stop, and let go to start running again.
  2. Watch the shadows on the ground. A dark, wide shadow means something is about to land right there.
  3. Stop to let a drop fall in front of you, or keep running to get out from under one.
  4. Run through the gold coins on the ground before they vanish. Survive as many seconds as you can.

Tips to get a high score

What ramps up over a run

Dodge piles on the pressure during the first minute. Drops start about 1.3 seconds apart and come every third of a second by the one-minute mark. Over the two minutes after that they keep speeding up, to roughly one every fifth of a second.

Things fall faster too. An early rock takes about a second and a half to reach head height; later ones take closer to one second. Your runner speeds up by about 40 percent over that first minute, so every stop and start covers more ground.

For the first ten seconds it's only rocks. After that anvils and boulders join in, and by a minute about half of all drops are one or the other. Boulders are nearly as wide as anvils but fall at normal speed.

Who each drop is aiming at

Every drop picks its target the moment it appears. About four in ten aim at where you'd be if you kept running flat out, about three in ten aim at where you're standing, and the rest land anywhere on the track.

The running aim knows about the walls. Near the end of the track, a drop meant for your future position can land behind you, on the spot you'll cross after you turn around.

Pairs start early and get common. The second drop is always a rock aimed at your other option, and it only appears if there's room between the two. Late in a run most drops come in pairs, and the answer is usually a short stop followed by running again, so the first one lands ahead and the second falls where you were.

Short holds, long runs

Your score is whole seconds survived, counted from the first landing. Coins and CLOSE! calls don't add to it, so never risk a run for a coin. Coins also vanish after about five seconds, and a landing on one knocks it away.

Stopping is quick: the runner brakes from full speed in about a tenth of a second and only slides a little. Getting back up to speed takes about twice as long. That's why a good default is to keep running and use short, sharp holds.

A long stop turns you into the target for every drop aimed at where you are. Stop just long enough to let the danger land, then let go.

Only objects still falling can hurt you. A hit counts when something passes head height right above you. Once a rock or anvil has landed, even one still sitting on the ground, you can run straight through it.

FAQ

When does the clock start?

The timer starts when the first rock lands, so every second on the clock is a second you were actually dodging.

Can I turn around?

Not directly. The runner turns at each end of the track by itself. You only control when it stops and goes, which is enough once you learn to read the shadows.

Is it free?

Yes. Every Tapamine game is free to play in your browser with no download and no account.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Tapamine is built for phones first: portrait, one thumb, and it works offline after your first visit. It also works with a mouse or the spacebar on a computer.

How do challenges work?

After a run, tap “Challenge a friend” to send a link. Your friend plays the exact same level and races your ghost — a replay of your run — to see who wins.
